I've given up on doing my own development. It's easier to modify other people's work, or go for a walk and realise you either don't need to do it _that_ way, or at all.

I agree, you should build the new site in Drupal 6. Come on, I mean you are a Developer for crying out loud, and you seem to be pretty good at it too. I know 5 might be better in some aspects and definitely easier to work with, but 6 has its merits and I believe eventually will breakthrough as being the best most versatile version produced.
